Liabilities and shares
The 'shares' portion represents any funds contributed by the owners (shareholders) and any profits.
  • High level of physical assets or inventory.
  • Debt is not covered by short term assets, assets are 0.1x debt.
Historical Debt
Nearly all companies have debt. Debt in itself isn’t bad, however if the debt is too high, or the company can’t afford to pay the interest on its debts this may have impacts in the future.

The graphic below shows equity (available funds) and debt, we ideally want to see the red area (debt) decreasing.

If there is any debt we look at the companies capability to repay it, and whether the level has increased over the past 5 years.

Zooming in on NASDAQ:ILPT's 6.8% Dividend Yield

Could Industrial Logistics Properties Trust (NASDAQ:ILPT) be an attractive dividend share to own for the long haul? Investors are often drawn to strong companies with the idea of reinvesting the dividends. On the other hand, investors have been known to buy a stock because of its yield, and then lose money if the company's dividend doesn't live up to expectations. Industrial Logistics Properties Trust has only been paying a dividend for a year or so, so investors might be curious about its 6.8% yield. Some simple research can reduce the risk of buying Industrial Logistics Properties Trust for its dividend - read on to learn more. Explore this interactive chart for our latest analysis on Industrial Logistics Properties Trust! NasdaqGS:ILPT Historical Dividend Yield, May 29th 2019 Payout ratios Dividends are typically paid from company earnings. If a company pays more in dividends than it earned, then the dividend might become unsustainable - hardly an ideal situation. Comparing dividend payments to a company's net profit after tax is a simple way of reality-checking whether a dividend is sustainable. Industrial Logistics Properties Trust paid out 79% of its profit as dividends, over the trailing twelve month period. It's paying out most of its earnings, which limits the amount that can be reinvested in the business. This may indicate limited need for further capital within the business, or highlight a commitment to paying a dividend. We also measure dividends paid against a company's levered free cash flow, to see if enough cash was generated to cover the dividend. The company paid out 68% of its free cash flow, which is not bad per se, but does start to limit the amount of cash Industrial Logistics Properties Trust has available to meet other needs. It's positive to see that Industrial Logistics Properties Trust's dividend is covered by both profits and cash flow, since this is generally a sign that the dividend is sustainable, and a lower payout ratio usually suggests a greater margin of safety before the dividend gets cut. Is Industrial Logistics Properties Trust's Balance Sheet Risky? As Industrial Logistics Properties Trust has a meaningful amount of debt, we need to check its balance sheet to see if the company might have debt risks. A rough way to check this is with these two simple ratios: a) net debt divided by EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation), and b) net interest cover. … Dividend Growth Potential The other half of the dividend investing equation is evaluating whether earnings per share (EPS) are growing. Growing EPS can help maintain or increase the purchasing power of the dividend over the long run. Over the past five years, it looks as though Industrial Logistics Properties Trust's EPS have declined at around 7.0% a year. If earnings continue to decline, the dividend may come under pressure. Every investor should make an assessment of whether the company is taking steps to stabilise the situation. Conclusion Dividend investors should always want to know if a) a company's dividends are affordable, b) if there is a track record of consistent payments, and c) if the dividend is capable of growing. … First, we think Industrial Logistics Properties Trust is paying out an acceptable percentage of its cashflow and profit.
