Discounted Cash Flow Calculation for NasdaqGS:MTEX using 2 Stage Free Cash Flow to Equity Model

The calculations below outline how an intrinsic value for Mannatech is arrived at by discounting future cash flows to their present value using the 2 stage method. We try to start with analysts estimates of free cash flow, however if these are not available we use the most recent financial results. In the 1st stage we continue to grow the free cash flow over a 10 year period, with the growth rate trending towards the perpetual growth rate used in the 2nd stage. The 2nd stage assumes the company grows at a stable rate into perpetuity.

Note: Free cash flow to equity valuations ignore the company's cash or debt.

MTEX Health

How is Mannatech's financial health and their level of debt?

A company's financial position is much like your own financial position, it includes everything you own (assets) and owe (liabilities).

The boxes below represent the relative size of what makes up Mannatech's finances.

The net worth of a company is the difference between its assets and liabilities.
Net Worth
  • Mannatech is able to meet its short term (1 year) commitments with its holdings of cash and other short term assets.
  • Mannatech's cash and other short term assets cover its long term commitments.
Balance sheet
This treemap shows a more detailed breakdown of Mannatech's finances. If any of them are yellow this indicates they may be out of proportion and red means they relate to one of the checks below.
Assets
Liabilities and shares
The 'shares' portion represents any funds contributed by the owners (shareholders) and any profits.
  • High level of physical assets or inventory.
  • Debt is covered by short term assets, assets are 37.2x debt.
Historical Debt
Nearly all companies have debt. Debt in itself isn’t bad, however if the debt is too high, or the company can’t afford to pay the interest on its debts this may have impacts in the future.

The graphic below shows equity (available funds) and debt, we ideally want to see the red area (debt) decreasing.

If there is any debt we look at the companies capability to repay it, and whether the level has increased over the past 5 years.

Does Mannatech, Incorporated (NASDAQ:MTEX) Have A Place In Your Dividend Stock Portfolio?

Is Mannatech, Incorporated (NASDAQ:MTEX) a good dividend stock? How can we tell? Dividend paying companies with growing earnings can be highly rewarding in the long term. Yet sometimes, investors buy a stock for its dividend and lose money because the share price falls by more than they earned in dividend payments. A high yield and a long history of paying dividends is an appealing combination for Mannatech. We'd guess that plenty of investors have purchased it for the income. The company also bought back stock equivalent to around 1.7% of market capitalisation this year." When buying stocks for their dividends, you should always run through the checks below, to see if the dividend looks sustainable. Click the interactive chart for our full dividend analysis NasdaqGS:MTEX Historical Dividend Yield, September 4th 2019Payout ratios Dividends are usually paid out of company earnings. If a company is paying more than it earns, then the dividend might become unsustainable - hardly an ideal situation. So we need to form a view on if a company's dividend is sustainable, relative to its net profit after tax. Although it reported a loss over the past 12 months, Mannatech currently pays a dividend. When a company is loss-making, we next need to check to see if its cash flows can support the dividend. Unfortunately, while Mannatech pays a dividend, it also reported negative free cash flow last year. While there may be a good reason for this, it's not ideal from a dividend perspective. With a strong net cash balance, Mannatech investors may not have much to worry about in the near term from a dividend perspective. Dividend Volatility Before buying a stock for its income, we want to see if the dividends have been stable in the past, and if the company has a track record of maintaining its dividend. For the purpose of this article, we only scrutinise the last decade of Mannatech's dividend payments. The dividend has been cut by more than 20% on at least one occasion historically. During the past ten-year period, the first annual payment was US$0.80 in 2009, compared to US$0.50 last year. This works out to be a decline of approximately 4.6% per year over that time. Mannatech's dividend hasn't shrunk linearly at 4.6% per annum, but the CAGR is a useful estimate of the historical rate of change. A shrinking dividend over a ten-year period is not ideal, and we'd be concerned about investing in a dividend stock that lacks a solid record of growing dividends per share. Dividend Growth Potential Given that the dividend has been cut in the past, we need to check if earnings are growing and if that might lead to stronger dividends in the future. Mannatech's EPS have fallen by approximately 65% per year. With this kind of significant decline, we always wonder what has changed in the business. Dividends are about stability, and Mannatech's earnings per share, which support the dividend, have been anything but stable. Conclusion Dividend investors should always want to know if a) a company's dividends are affordable, b) if there is a track record of consistent payments, and c) if the dividend is capable of growing. … It's a concern to see that the company paid a dividend despite reporting a loss, and the dividend was also not well covered by free cash flow. … Second, earnings per share have been in decline, and its dividend has been cut at least once in the past.

However we are not very impressed because the share price is only up 31%, less than the market return of 55%. … There will continue to be wide discrepancies between price and value in the marketplace...' One flawed but reasonable way to assess how sentiment around a company has changed is to compare the earnings per share (EPS) with the share price. … So it seems one might have to take closer look at earnings and revenue trends to see how they might influence the share price.

Mannatech, Incorporated (NASDAQ:MTEX) Investors Should Think About This Before Buying It For Its Dividend

Dividend paying stocks like Mannatech, Incorporated (NASDAQ:MTEX) tend to be popular with investors, and for good reason - some research suggests a significant amount of all stock market returns come from reinvested dividends. … As a loss-making company, we can also measure Mannatech's dividend payments against its levered free cash flow, to see if enough cash was generated to cover the dividend. … Dividend Growth Potential With a relatively unstable dividend, it's even more important to see if earnings per share (EPS) are growing. Why take the risk of a dividend getting cut, unless there's a good chance of bigger dividends in future? Over the past five years, it looks as though Mannatech's EPS have declined at around 61% a year. Declining earnings per share over a number of years is not a great sign for the dividend investor. Without some improvement, this does not bode well for the long term value of a company's dividend. Conclusion Dividend investors should always want to know if a) a company's dividends are affordable, b) if there is a track record of consistent payments, and c) if the dividend is capable of growing.
