Mr. Ian Charles Dench has been Chief Executive Officer of Omani Qatari Telecommunications Company SAOG since January 23, 2017. Mr. Dench has been the Chief Executive Officer of Ooredoo Oman at Ooredoo Q.S.C. since January 24, 2017 and served as its Group Chief Commercial Officer from February 2016 to January 24, 2017. Mr. Dench served as an Executive Director of Consumer Services at Ooredoo Q.S.C. Mr. Dench joined Ooredoo Q.S.C. in May 2006 as Executive Director for Q-TEL's Business Solutions unit; designed to cater for the telecoms needs of Qtel’s business customers and multi-national organisations. He began his career in the UK with British Telecom (BT) in Corporate Accounts Management and Marketing, before moving into it’s international business development. His work focused on mergers and acquisitions, mobile license bids and mobile joint ventures with companies such as LG TeleCom in South Korea, SmarTone in Hong Kong and J-Phone's 3G venture in Japan. Mr. Dench has also worked on major BT projects in Europe and Latin America. Following O2’s de-merger from BT, Mr. Dench was appointed Vice President of O2 Asia Pacific where he was responsible for growing its presence in Asia Pacific. His work at O2 Asia Pacific was involved creating start-up businesses in Australia, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore. In 2002, he was recruited by Batelco in Bahrain as General Manager of Marketing & Sales and was responsible for transforming Batelco from a classic monopoly into a competitive telecommunications service business. He served as a Commissioner of PT Indosat Tbk since March 15, 2016 until May 24, 2017. During his time in Bahrain, Mr. Dench served as a Director and Board Member posts in Jordan and Kuwait. Before being invited to join Qtel he spent a brief period at Mobily, in Saudi Arabia where he was Chief Sales and Customer Care Officer. Mr. Dench is a Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Marketing and holds and MBA from Cass Business School in London.
